Growing number of massive data centers cause local concerns in San Antonio
San Antonio City Councilmember Ric Galvan reports a significant shift in the local landscape due to the expansion of massive hyperscale facilities. While data centers previously resembled standard office structures, they have evolved into enormous complexes designed to support artificial intelligence infrastructure. Currently, Galvan's 55-square-mile district contains over twelve such installations, a figure projected to reach approximately 20 following the completion of pending developments.
These facilities are increasingly concentrated along two primary roadways, which intensifies local concerns regarding traffic congestion and noise pollution. As these massive footprints continue to expand, urban planners and local officials face growing pressure to manage the environmental and logistical impacts of hosting high-density computing hubs within residential or established commercial zones.
