Insta360 moves from 360 cameras into the smart glasses market
Insta360 is expanding its product portfolio beyond its core 360-degree camera lineup to include smart eyewear. The company currently holds a 73 percent global market share in the 360-degree imaging sector and recently reached a milestone of 10 million units sold. To support its massive production scale, the firm invested $298 million into memory chip procurement. Additionally, the brand has established its inaugural American flagship retail location in New York City's Times Square.
This strategic pivot represents a significant attempt to move beyond specialized camera hardware and compete with established giants like Canon. By entering the wearable technology market, Insta360 aims to diversify its influence in the imaging industry. The massive capital expenditure on components suggests the company is preparing for high-volume manufacturing as it transitions from niche camera tools to broader consumer electronics.
