Lagos Life game turns virtual advertising into a major business model
Between October 1 and October 9, 2026, the simulation game Lagos Life transitioned from a rapid eight-hour development project into a commercial enterprise generating over $170,000 in revenue. Created by Shalom Rayhamen, the free-to-play platform monetizes through virtual advertising plots. A recent audit of the game identified 244 advertisements displayed across 40 digital billboards located in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Lagos. At a weekly rate of ₦250,000 per ad, these specific placements represent approximately ₦61 million in weekly advertising value, with total earnings potentially exceeding this figure due to multi-week bookings.
This shift toward virtual advertising models presents new considerations for the commercial landscape in Nigeria. As digital assets generate significant real-world income, companies may face evolving requirements regarding how they manage, transmit, or document invoices and tax obligations. Organizations should monitor these developments closely, as the integration of virtual marketing into mainstream business strategies could impact existing regulatory and compliance frameworks.
