Lets Encrypt will soon shorten the lifespan of its security certificates
Let's Encrypt is implementing a phased reduction in the lifespan of its digital security credentials. Starting in February 2027, the certificate authority will transition to a default validity period of 64 days for all new issuances. This move serves as an intermediate step before the organization eventually shifts to a shorter 45-day standard.
This adjustment necessitates a change in how technical teams manage automated security protocols. Because certificates will expire more frequently, companies must ensure their renewal processes are robust and fully automated to prevent service interruptions. Failure to adapt could disrupt critical digital operations, including the systems used for generating, transmitting, or filing electronic invoices and tax documentation.
