Microsoft 365 users may see a major drop in OneDrive storage space
Microsoft is transitioning its storage allocation model for Microsoft 365 subscribers, according to recent documentation from Redmond. Under the previous system, Family, Premium, and Pro tiers provided 1 TB of OneDrive space per person, allowing up to six users to reach a 6 TB total. The updated structure moves to a shared pool model where Family and Premium plans will receive a collective 2 TB, while Pro subscriptions will be limited to 5 TB. This shift results in a capacity reduction of up to 4 TB for shared Family and Premium accounts, and 1 TB for Pro users.
While Microsoft claims this change offers greater flexibility by removing individual caps, the overall reduction in available space necessitates immediate attention from users. IT and technology departments should evaluate the financial implications, data security, and service reliability of these changes. It is also vital for organizations to develop contingency plans regarding data management and the potential risks associated with sudden shifts in cloud service availability.
