Moove exits the Nigerian market to focus on US robotaxi projects
Moove has announced its departure from Nigeria, the country where it originally launched its operations. Following the recent exit of its sole ride-hailing partner and investor, Uber, the mobility firm will transfer ownership of eligible vehicles valued at approximately ₦35 billion ($26.3 million) to its drivers starting October 1. Under this arrangement, drivers will owe no further payments, and every staff member at the company will receive a complimentary vehicle.
This strategic withdrawal stems from the loss of critical data access previously provided by Uber, which Moove utilized to manage its lending model and track driver earnings. Without this information, the company could no longer effectively price or collect on its vehicle loans. As Moove shifts its corporate focus toward developing robotaxi depots within the United States, the Nigerian market no longer aligns with its long-term objectives. This transition may require local businesses to adjust their internal processes regarding invoicing, tax reporting, and general financial compliance.
