More people are switching to Windows 11 as Windows 10 support costs rise
Recent data from Statcounter indicates that Windows 11 adoption has climbed to approximately 71.5 percent, while Windows 10 usage has fallen to 27.77 percent. This shift follows the conclusion of the initial year of the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, which began after Windows 10 reached its end-of-support date on October 14, 2025. While these figures are estimates based on tracking data from over one million websites, they reflect a growing trend of users migrating to the newer operating system.
The movement toward Windows 11 is largely influenced by Microsoft's pricing structure for continued Windows 10 support. Although commercial clients paid $61 per device for the first year of security updates, the cost is scheduled to double for every subsequent year. This escalating expense creates a significant financial incentive for enterprises to complete their hardware or software transitions. Consequently, companies may need to adjust internal workflows, including how they manage digital invoicing, tax reporting, and general administrative documentation.
