New South Atlantic data route to connect Europe and South America
DE-CIX and Cabo Verde Telecom (CVTelecom) have signed a Letter of Intent to develop a new interconnection corridor across the South Atlantic. This strategic initiative aims to link Lisbon, Portugal, with São Paulo, Brazil, facilitating more direct data exchanges between Southern Europe, West Africa, and Latin America. Through this partnership, CVTelecom intends to supply transport capacity between the two major hubs, while DE-CIX will offer its extensive interconnection ecosystems and services located throughout the Americas and Europe.
This project seeks to enhance global network resilience and performance by providing an alternative route that bypasses traditional traffic hubs in North America and Northern Europe. For businesses operating within Africa, this development could improve intercontinental connectivity speeds and diversity. However, organizations should investigate local availability, pricing structures, and specific regulatory requirements before integrating these new routes into their operations.
