OpenClaw shifts to enterprise model to address security concerns
Developer Peter Steinberger has initiated development of OpenClaw Enterprise to address corporate hesitation regarding his agentic AI project. Originally designed as an automated digital assistant capable of managing emails and scheduling, the tool faced significant scrutiny from security experts. Gartner identified the software as a major cybersecurity threat to professional users, while China's Computer Emergency Response Team highlighted dangerously inadequate default security settings. Despite these warnings, OpenAI recruited Steinberger to integrate OpenClaw into their strategic roadmap for personal AI agents.
The transition to an enterprise-focused model aims to mitigate the reputational and safety concerns that previously hindered widespread adoption. According to OpenAI staffer Kevin Lin, the shift responds to organizational apprehension regarding the deployment of persistent agents. For businesses, this development underscores the necessity of rigorously evaluating the cost, safety, and reliability of automated tools. Companies must also establish contingency plans for scenarios where critical online services experience unexpected outages.
