PawaPay gets official license to provide digital payments in Mozambique
PawaPay has obtained a Payment Service Provider license from the Bank of Mozambique via its local entity, Quidexplus Mozambique. This authorization allows the firm to register merchants directly and offer regulated financial services within the nation. As one of the initial companies to receive this specific permit, PawaPay can now link businesses to the country's extensive mobile money ecosystem, which includes over 12 million active accounts across the M-Pesa, E-Mola, and mKesh networks.
This regulatory milestone addresses a historical gap in the Mozambican market where merchants previously lacked scalable methods to process mobile payments. By facilitating direct connections to major mobile operators, the company aims to streamline digital transactions for local enterprises. Companies operating within the region should evaluate local service availability, fee structures, and specific compliance requirements as these new regulated payment pathways become operational.
