How to Plan an ERP Integration Project in Nigeria
ERP integration should begin with operational flows, not connectors. The first question is where information needs to move, who owns it, and what happens when one system disagrees with another.
Map the business flow first
Trace a real transaction from beginning to end: for example quotation to order, invoice, payment and reporting. This exposes duplicate entry and unclear ownership.
- Source system
- Destination system
- Trigger
- Required fields
- Failure owner
Choose the system of record
For each important entity such as customer, product, invoice or payment, decide which system owns the authoritative version.
Define the integration pattern
Use real-time APIs only where the process needs them. Scheduled synchronization can be simpler and more resilient for some reporting or back-office flows.
Plan for exceptions
Every integration eventually encounters missing fields, duplicate records, timeouts or rejected transactions. Make exception handling part of the design rather than an afterthought.
Measure operational success
Track outcomes such as manual steps removed, exceptions per period, synchronization delay and reconciliation effort rather than judging the project only by whether an API is online.
